Instructions:

A smooth breakfast purée for one child aged exactly 6 months who is developmentally ready for complementary foods.

  1. Weigh the listed Oat amount while dry, then grind it into a fine flour. Peel a ripe Banana and weigh the listed amount of raw flesh, excluding the peel.
  2. Whisk the ground oats with 80 ml water in a small saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring frequently, until thoroughly cooked and soft. Add a little more water if needed to prevent sticking.
  3. Remove from the heat and mash in the weighed banana. Blend or press through a fine sieve until completely smooth, with no lumps. Add a little freshly boiled water as needed for a loose, spoonable purée.
  4. Cool to lukewarm and check the temperature before serving. Offer a small amount by spoon with your baby upright and closely supervised. Follow their appetite cues; they do not need to finish the portion.

Storage

Before feeding, set aside any portion you wish to keep in a clean, covered container. Refrigerate promptly, within 2 hours of preparation, and use within 24 hours. Reheat only once until steaming hot throughout, stir well, then cool to lukewarm before serving. Discard leftovers from the feeding bowl.

Allergens

Oats and banana can cause allergic reactions. Oats may have cross-contact with wheat, barley or rye; check the packaging if avoiding these cereals or gluten. If either ingredient is new to your baby, introduce it separately before combining them to help identify any reaction.
